This Horrific Pile-Up Shows The Dangers Of Speeding In Foggy Conditions

This onboard video from Slovenia is proof that if you speed in the fog, you're gonna have a bad time...

The video’s description - provided by the Associated Press - sheds some light on this terrifying pile-up:

“A massive pileup involving dozens of cars and trucks in dense fog killed four people on Saturday and injured 30 on a highway in western Slovenia, police said.

The accident took place on a key motorway connecting the capital of Ljubljana with the Adriatic coast. The area was wrapped in thick fog and police say this was the likely cause of the pileup.

Eyewitness photos published by local online media showed dozens of crumpled cars, some of them lodged under trucks. Police said some 70 various vehicles were caught in the crash near Senozece, some 70 kilometers (42 miles) southwest of Ljubljana.

The motorway remained closed for traffic as emergency crews, firefighters and police struggled to provide help and clear the scene.

State STA news agency said the pileup was one of the biggest ever in the small EU country.”

It can be all too easy to push on in dodgy conditions, something I’m sure we’ve all done at one time or another. But this video is a clear reminder that very few people actually drive to the prevailing conditions. Ultimately, if your visibility is reduced to a matter of feet, you can’t expect to maintain your normal cruising speed safely.

Stay safe CTzens.

You know what could have helped in that situation? Slowly backing up at the breakdown lane (with every light your car has got switched on of course)! Getting away from the dangerous situation, maybe leaving the highway over a ramp or finding a safe space beside the road on the grass, maybe even behind a guarding rail…

Such a smartass. You try to back up you will get wrecked by the oncoming vehicles in seconds.

There are cars coming at you at 100 kmh+. If you stay on the road, you’re as good as dead.

A woman was trapped in a car after a minor crash, then got crushed by a truck ramming her car into the truck ahead of her. That’s why you don’t stay in the car.

Driving fast in low visibility is never a good idea. I live in the country and there was a very bad accident a few weeks ago right by my house because of freezing fog.one person broke down and there isn’t a place to pull off the road they were doing everything they could to get the car off the road when and idiot came around the corner doing about 70 mph and killed the person that had broken down and his passenger.

idiots….. vehicles there were waiting to get wrecked anyways, back a few of them a hundred meter or so with the hazards on, it’d take one thick driver to not realize somethings wrong

You try to back up and you will get rammed even harder, possibly by a truck. Or are you just trying to be smart?
