Jack Olsen works as a Hollywood screenwriter, and during the Writer’s Guild strike in 2007 he suddenly found himself with a lot of spare time. He decided to overhaul his garage for just $3200 with little experience, proving that the garage of your dreams really isn’t that difficult to get.

The AutoMotorPlex is a really cool place. Each garage is customized for each owner, so no two are alike. They also hold Minneapolis Cars & Coffee there.
Everyone has something different. I have a garage there and so does my uncle, it’s great getting to know the other garage owners
Number one is very cool, but there’s no space to work on the car. You’d be bumping into walls/cabinets the whole time. Not to mention that a plate lift isn’t really good for anything but changing wheels around.
I wish it were bigger, but it works pretty well. There isn’t anything serviceable on the 911 that the lift restricts access to. I’ve done multiple engine/transaxle drops with it. I have a cross-piece I made that adapts to my other cars. Yesterday morning, I did the 75K service on my front-engine BMW, and it also works with my Jeep. The limitation I had when I started was a center pillar in the old garage, but that forced me to be a little more creative with the space, which meant I got a separate working area on the other side — which I’ve really liked.
I plan on either building a pole barn or buying an old aircraft hanger for mine!

Stupid question, how do you get the top car off the bunk garage?
It’s simpler than it seems! You drive the car out from below and lower the top bunk down to the ground! The “bunk” is actually a hoist. I’ve seen one of these setups in a garage before, they are very nice.
