More like who is the better driver… the BMW guy went full throttle from the beginning. Worst thing you can do in snow.

If you turn off traction controll you kind of lose the xDrive help because it relies on ABS/DSC systems.
IF TC is off then you have permanently the power split in 60% rear with 40% front and the system will not help you gain traction by braking the wheels spinning, even DPC will be OFF (no torque split between the wheels with traction and without).
BMW’s Dynamic Performance Control torque-vectoring system works in unison with xDrive all-wheel drive and Dynamic Stability Control

You wil spin and spin and spin.
BMW xDrive is connected to the ABS and DSC (dynamic stability control) systems . In the case that wheelspin or directional instability still occurs while xDrive is or has been modulating the torque split, DSC will brake independent wheels to regain traction and improve directional stability without driver intervention.
The front and rear differentials in xDrive vehicles are typically an open differential design, thus relying on brake application by the DSC system to transfer power from the slipping wheel to the wheel with traction.
