10 Things To Look Forward To From Motorsport In 2016

1. Mercedes vs Ferrari?

Ferrari made big strides forward in F1 last year and there is a lot of hope and optimism that further improvements could be made in 2016, and we will have a proper fight for race wins between Mercedes and the Prancing Horse. We got a taste of what battles between Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel and Nico Rosberg could be like last year and we should hopefully see many more over the next 21 races.

One of the biggest stories in motorsport at the moment is Ford’s return to endurance racing with the new GT. The manufacturer will run two cars in the FIA World Endurance Championship and two in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, with all four Chip Ganassi Racing machines competing at Le Mans. We can’t wait to see them out on track!

3. More epic MotoGP action

The 2015 MotoGP season was, quite simply, mad. We saw so much amazing racing and controversy, with Jorge Lorenzo claiming the championship. Of particular interest is just what will happen between Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez this season, given the pair’s tense relationship.

4. Can anyone beat VW?

VW has dominated the World Rally Championship recently, with Sebastien Ogier winning his third title in 2015. It was a spectacular season but there is hope that this year the fight will be closer, especially with the new 2016-spec Hyundai i20 and the all-new driver line-up at M-Sport.

5. Le Mans

The 24 Hours of Le Mans is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the motorsport season and is always hotly anticipated. Last year’s event was spectacular and 2016 looks set to be the same. It will be the 84th running of the iconic race and we can’t wait to see what the Circuit de la Sarthe has in store from the 18-19th June.

6. Landmark Indy 500

The famous Indianapolis 500 will hit a truly outstanding milestone in 2016 – the 100th running of the race! It has produced so many incredible moments and is one of the best spectacles in motorsport, so we are looking forward to seeing who will win it this year on May 29th.

7. New kid on the block

The last few years have not been kind to new F1 teams, but that could change with the arrival of Haas F1 in 2016. Run by Nascar team co-owner Gene Haas, the chassis will be made by Dallara, the engines are from Ferrari and the Prancing Horse is also providing technical support too. With Romain Grosjean and Esteban Gutierrez as drivers, it could be a very positive debut.

8. More Nascar chaos

One of the things we love so much about Nascar is every race always produces some kind of mayhem. There’s always something to say and write about, and that doesn’t look set to change anytime soon. With a packed 36-race Sprint Cup schedule and a top driver line-up once again, we are eager to see what 2016 will bring for one of the most bonkers motorsports out there.

9. Stadium Super Trucks!

This insane motorsport series isn’t the most well-known, but it is certainly brilliant to watch and it will be back with a bang in 2016, we are sure. Racing around ramp-strewn street tracks in big, powerful trucks that have the strongest suspension of any race car, it is always hilarious to watch and we need more of it!

Motorbikes speeding around the streets and roads of the Isle of Man is one of the greatest tests of talent and machinery in motorsport. The famous race returns in June to wow crowds and spectators. One big question is whether anyone can beat the outright world record of 17 minutes, 03.567 seconds set by the legendary John McGuinness in 2015.
