No traction control, no anti-lock brakes, full spool differential, no power brakes, big 4 door sedans. Not designed to be easy to race.

It sucks that the Ford Falcon and Holden Commodore are going to stop production by end of 2016, then we will be left with Volvo, Nissan and Mercedes racing in an Australian motorsport without any Australian cars

If you believe that Ford and Holden will stop playing V8SC just because they dont build Falcons and Commodores you’re wrong, rules are changing to allow changes for 2017 including turbo enginesc and different body shapes, Ford will probably race a Mustang, Holden will race one of Chev’s global models.

Here’s a couple of reasons why it isn’t: 1) The racing is often pretty dull follow-the-leader stuff. 2) Some of the teams seem immune to penalties where as others (and some of the Kiwis) seem to get pinged for getting out of bed the wrong way. 3) The cars are big and wide and side-by-side racing is basically non-existent and 4) The commentators are generally pretty good but they’re ex drivers and have issues attributing blame or even talking about things that involve their mates making mistakes.

As an Australian I do love watching the V8 supercars although it can get very BORING! There is no variety in the cars because they are all restricted to the same config. Before V8SC we the the Aussie touring car championship which had cars of all different classes. Much more exciting racing!

I’ve lately been getting into it during the course of my vacation here in Australia. Plus lets not forget extraordinary feats such as D Johnson’s ‘rock’ incident…and the level of crowdfunding he received to get his car back on the track.

Make sure you skip to 6:20 before you move on from the No.2 video. Also make sure you focus on Chas Mostert’s left leg on the in car view of the crash. You can see it violently snap mid-crash.
