Steve the car guy

I’m a big BMW guy and this post is wrong in many ways . Sure the e30 may make more HP bit a Camaro has more torque and tuning ability. Also you forgot to mention regulations and the fuel crisis. Without these the camaro would have had at least 300 HP

The compression ratio is the problem with both. The E30 engine will wear fast, but the Camaro was designed for America… America likes reliable engines more than almost any other nation… because Americans like to abuse their cars. I know it’s a generalization, but the standards of cars visiting my country from the states are appalling. But, they still run. The compression ratio and engine tolerances are set for reliability, and believe it or not, fuel economy and emissions.

The M3 was not incredibly more fuel efficient, and was not much cleaner. And less reliable. The Camaro was aimed at a different market with different desires.

Compare it to a z from the same year since you want to compare m power it made 245 ….so this is not correct

The Camaro was an oil crisis era car. It was designed not to empty your pockets, and most people could drive it. That M3 was not affordable to everyone when it first came out. You build for your target market.

Camaro Z/28 it has a 5L V8, too. But it was made 1969, and it has 290bhp/294PS/216kw. 0-60 in 5.3 sec, that’s 1,4sec faster than the M3 which was build much later, I’m not a Chevy guy, but I love a lot of american cars. THE AMERICANS HAD TO REDICE THE POWER OF THEIR CARS DUE TO THE OIL CRISIS AND SUCH THINGS, LAWS GOT STRICTER AND INSURANCES WERE MORE EXPENSIVE! ALSO THESE CARS ARE NOT VERY COMPARABLE, SO WHEN YOU WANT TO COMPARE CAMARO AND M3 DO IT WITH THIS CAMARO! AGAIN Z/28, 5,3 SEC 0-60, so how fast is the M3? BTW, my dad drives E36, I have nothing against Euro, and BMW is my fav. Brand from Germany.

It’s also worth noting that ALL Camaros are down 1 camshaft and 3 throttle bodies from that M3. Plus a few PSI of compression and a massive gap in base price. Who are the geniuses who come up with these memes?? They’re just wrong.

when you want to compare camaro and m3 do it with this one herpa derp….yeah that is an absolute legit comparison, an M3 with 4 zyl and 192 hp and a camaro with a V8 with 290 hp. The camaro is faster? No sh*t! Would be a fail if it wasn’t. But given the fact that he has only 290 hp out of a 5L V8 and the M3 has 192 hp out of a 2.3L 4 zyl engine, it still shows the point of this picture. German engineering!

Yeah but trying to survive a fuel crisis by lowering the power of large displacement V8’s is a really stupid strategy. Car manufacturers of the size of Ford GM etc have no excuse to let horribly engineered products like that go out the door…

This is not correct. Being a m it should be compared to a z f body that made 245 hp not 170….

it blows my mind how little power these big engines were producing….like the older V12s that made like 240hp….like why, why even make a v12 producing that much power, it’s shameful
