Make Time To Stop And Stare At The Pagani Huayra Roadster BC

As is the way with limited-edition hard-top hypercars, a convertible version has now appeared, and as is the way with Paganis, it’s impossible not to gawp

This is Pagani’s new 6.0-litre, 791bhp, 1250kg silver bullet. The Huayra Roadster BC is a spin-off from the fixed-roof Roadster, but not only is it more powerful – it’s also lighter.

The Roadster BC bucks the trend for heavier convertibles by using an all-new carbonfibre and titanium monocoque and exclusively carbonfibre body panels` in place of the hard-top’s aluminium ones.

It’s becoming a bit of a thing; car makers releasing an ultra-limited-edition hard-top hypercar and dining out on its exclusivity, only for them to casually drop a roofless version 12 or 24 months down the line, positioned as even rarer, more exclusive and even more irresistible than the last one.

It’s a profitable way to do business when the start price of the car in question is €3.7 million, equivalent to about £3.3 million at the time of writing. That’s the same as 71 Alpine A110s, just over 39 new Porsche 911 Carreras or 471 bog-basic Dacia Sanderos. We have to admit, though, that a single Roadster BC would be much easier to park than all of those options.

The 6.0-litre V12 mounted in the middle comes from Mercedes-AMG and is built specially for Pagani. Along with power of 791bhp is 774lb ft of torque, not forgetting the manual gearbox, either, making for some lively moments if you ever dare to deactivate the electronic nannies.

The gear shifter keeps its visible linkage but the exhaust system is all-new and made out of finest titanium, which in turn is coloured blue at the four trumpet-like tips set into the trademark Pagani square arrangement. The exhaust works with the diffuser to add downforce.

Behind the lightweight alloy wheels are carbon-ceramic Brembo discs gripped by six-piston calipers at the front and four-pot units at the back. On the inside the leather-clad bucket seats joins featherweight carbonfibre for almost everything else.

It’s set for its public debut at the 2019 Monterey Car Week as a star attraction at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
