This 202mph Audi RS7 Saloon Is The World's Fastest Armoured Car
If you’re in the bad guy business and see an Audi RS7 like this, you’re best off turning around and going home. Capable of hitting 202mph, this no nonsense German saloon is the handiwork of American company AdArmor.
Nestling underneath the RS7’s familiar front end, with red and blue strobe lights integrated into its huge honeycomb grille, is the same 4.0-litre, twin-turbo V8 used in the showroom-spec model.
Here, however, power is cranked up to 750bhp meaning the getaway driver can hit 60mph from a standing start in 2.9 seconds. It - and the mightily impressive 800lb ft of torque - is all thanks to a programme called ‘APR Plus Stage 2’.
But power is only half the story because in order to be fast you need to be agile and by using polycarbonate composite, that is what AddArmor’s engineers have achieved.
Not only is it ten time stronger than ballistic steel, it is said to be 60 per cent lighter like-for-like. The “combat proven” material can repel armour piercing rounds.
On top of that, the glass is ballistic-proof and therefore capable of withstanding sustained and prolonged attack from bats and concrete blocks. It can also stop a .44 Magnum round in its tracks.
There are even hints of 007 in this car - how about a smoke screen that obscures your pursuers’ view of the road ahead when initiated, or rear-mounted lights that are so bright they effectively blind whoever is behind you? The door handles can even deliver an electric shock and pepper spray dispensers.
Our favourite? It is a toss up between those Pirelli tyres that can take driver and passenger(s) up to a distance of 30 miles once they have been sabotaged, or the onboard gas masks that are connected to air tanks that guarantee a supply of clean oxygen in cases where an airborne attack is inbound.
The AddArmor RS7 pictured here has an asking price of $205,000 (£163,000). Apparently you can put a price on safety….
