All-New Mazda3 In ‘Yet Another Stylish And Practical Mazda’ Shock
This is the brand new Mazda3, in both its hatchback and saloon body styles. We reckon the front end is easily the prettiest of any compact hatchback on sale today.
Designed to “enable people to make the most of their natural sense of balance,” we imagine the press release might have been directly translated from the Japanese. Because we have no idea what that actually means.
Apparently, though, the new Golf rival has been engineered so that the basic driving attributes like accelerating, turning and braking all feel “completely natural.” We hope that means they’re direct and precise, with good feedback at the wheel and seat.
More details will be released later, at which point we’ll update this story, but for now all we know is that the handsome devil will use all three of Mazda’s current internal combustion engine ranges: SkyActiv-G petrol, SkyActiv-D diesel and the intriguing new SkyActiv-X, which we’ve driven and should offer diesel fuel economy with vastly lower particulate emissions – a best of both worlds scenario for the planet.

The only reason I’d personally be hesitant to touch any of these is due to the MASSIVE rust issues the older models had. Like the paint quality was so bad (minimal coats) and the sheet-metal thickness was super thin. The under-bodies of those cars simply rotted. I see 2006, 2007 year Mazda 3s on the streets of Canada and not a single one of them doesn’t have major rust problems. Hopefully this issue has improved because it completely destroyed my faith in the brand.

Don’t know about 2006-07 Mazda 3 rust but my blue 2010 doesn’t have bad paint or rust anywhere. Car was in rainy Seattle for its first 7 years then came to N.Y. where I bought it. Biggest beef I have is headroom. Definitely a car designed for Japanese people. The low roof line and side pillar is a pain to see around at drive throughs. Oh, and the nose was definitely made to get a part in a CARS movie. It smiles with dimples!

As a huge fan of Mazda I like it a lot, but there’s one think that bothers me a bit, the front grill, it’s just a bit bigger than it should for my taste, but I could live with that each and everyday! Very good jod Mazda as always!
