You Can Finally Use Google Maps With Apple Car Play, And Soon Waze

With many OEM infotainment systems being a bit rubbish, it’s often tempting to bypass them entirely and just stick with something like Android Auto or Apple Car Play. While replicating your phone screen on your dashboard is in many ways handy, it’s not been quite so ideal for Car Play users, who have been forced to use Apple’s own mapping system.

That’s a pain when - even though Apple Maps has improved dramatically since its launch - Google Maps is generally seen as the superior app. Finally, though, Apple is allowing third-party navigation apps to work with Car Play.

This was first announced in June, but iOS 12 is now live and it’s been confirmed that - yes - it’s fully compatible with Google Maps in Car Play mode. Praise be.

The increasingly popular navigation app Waze, meanwhile - which is owned by Google - is expected to become compatible with Car Play in the coming weeks.
