The 759bhp Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Is Finally Here

Lamborghini's track monster features more power, an overhauled chassis and a ridiculously complicated active aero system

After all the teasers and videos of Nurburgring domination, it’s at last here. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the most unhinged Lamborghini you can buy right now: the Aventador SVJ.

As anticipated, its wailing 6.5-litre, naturally-aspirated V12 develops 759bhp and 531lb ft of torque. 0-62mph happens in just 2.8 seconds, while the top speed is “more than” 217mph. So 218mph…?

But the engine tweaks are really only one small part of the story, as Lamborghini has comprehensively upgraded the Aventador to make this Superveloce Jota version faster on track. Just take the aerodynamics as an example: all the changes result in a 70 per cent increase in downforce compared to the already very focused SV.

The front bumper with its side fins is all new, and it’s teamed up with a big splitter. The huge “tri-dimensional” air outlets on the bonnet help direct airflow exactly where it’s needed.

The car has the new ‘Lamborghini Dinamica Veicolo Attiva 2.0’ (let’s just stick with LDVA 2.0, shall we?) active aero system, which sees various flaps open in less than half a second to reduce air pressure on the front splitter while also directing air to the reshaped vortex generators. The system even directs air to either side of the unusual tri-mount rear wing, depending on which way you’re cornering.

In terms of the chassis, it’s received a 50 per cent stiffer anti-roll bar, while the “damping force range” of the suspension has been upped by 15 per cent relative to the SV. The all-wheel drive system sends three per cent more of the V12’s torque to the rear than it did before, and the all-wheel steering system has been tweaked too. Finally, Lamborghini has fiddled with the stability control and ABS to complement the mechanical changes. We’re starting to see how the SVJ managed to pull out two seconds on the Porsche 911 GT2 RS at the Nurburgring.

The finishing touch? That’d be the lightweight ‘Nireo’ wheels, something you won’t find on any other Lamborghini. They’re wrapped in a bespoke version of Pirelli’s P Zero Corsa tyre with stiffer sidewalls, and super-sticky, track-focused Trofeo Rs are available optionally.

The price for this? £356,000, before you start ticking option boxes. Just 900 will be made.

See this thing is cool and all, but how come adding more power and all of this crazy aero stuff doesn’t make it faster? Every, and I mean EVERY modern V12 powered Lamborghini, from the Aventador S to the Centenario to this, they all have the same 0-60 time and the same top speed? What gives?

I mean for starters areo really won’t do much to a 0-60 time. And since every car weighs literally almost the same weight and they all have near identicle horsepower it would make sense for their top speeds to be very close. Also Lamborghini doesn’t really test the top speeds of half these cars they just make a rough estimate like “ehhh she’ll probably do 217ishh”

What happens when you leave a Veneno and an Aventador SV alone together.
