Seen any recent old vs new pictures like this? Love a good size comparison!
A few years ago I ran a piece about old vs new comparison images that show just how big cars have become due to safety regulations, increasing interior space and the lust of creature comforts. I was reminded of this when parking ‘our’ M2 longtermer next to Alex’s E36 M3 - the M2 looks huge in comparison!

Sad thing is, only the T/A is out of mass production of all the cars in that image :/
You should really compare it to E30 body style, since it’s referring to the original M3 spirit.
And the problem with cars getting fat is not only the weight. With new materials they are managing to keep it under control… sort of. That weight (~320kg - E30 M3 vs M2) is now taking up more volume and is positioned higher from the ground. They can add as much clever electronic devices as they want to make that added weight go around the bends fast, but ultimately it will still feel fat.

This bothers me a lot as a german… since when is the M2 the successor of the 3-Series/M3 ?
What about the 2002 ti ?! And there is also a new generation of the M3…
Perfect would be 2002 ti vs. M2 and old M3 vs. New M3/M4 depending on how much Doors you like..
M2 could be considered the E36 M3’s ‘spiritual successor’, is our argument! And if we have this M2 for three months (which we do), why wouldn’t we get it together with Colin?
Took this the other day, really shows how much bigger cars are getting.
