What happened with the CT Chat?
tl;dr: It’s gone.
Yesterday we run a fun experiment and integrated chatrooms into communities. It’s something that many of you have been requesting so it was only fair to give it a shot. Normally, it would take months of hard work and dedication to build such a feature, so we decided to use a 3rd party solution to test the idea.
Unfortunately that meant we had to compromise on the most fundamental things that make a chatroom great (e.g. moderation). Despite the basic experience there was great activity in some of the communities and we were glued to the screen for hours.
Experiments like this help us think about the direction of Car Throttle and make it easier to decide what features to build next. At the end of the day, making chat work on a community level is a huge challenge but it’s something we have to seriously evaluate.

Is chat definitely going to be a feature again at some point?
It’s too early to say at this point… Remember that before cars existed people wanted faster horses.

damnit, i was so hyped about it, and the people seemed to be respecting each other… yes, moderation is a thing that is a must have in a chat. but everyone was having such a great time.. you guys could have at least told us it wasn’t permanent, raising false hopes isn’t nice… But oh well
