Watch An E46 BMW M3 Driver Get Caught Out By A Slow Moving Porsche Cayman At The 'Ring

In a classic example of the perils of the Nurburgring touristenfahrten, it looks like this BMW driver is completely caught out by the slower moving Cayman up ahead, leading to a spin followed by a hefty Armco hit

Ideally we’d like to see exactly what happened just before this video started, but it certainly looks like the E46 driver came in too hot, misjudging the speed of the sedately driven Porsche Cayman. Proceedings go south when he clips the grass while braking, sending the M3 into a perilous spin.

What’s your armchair analysis?

At least the indicators went on after the impact. It’s still very sad :c

When you want to overtake a Porsche, but you never use your indicators.

Now he knows exactly why it is called “Touristenfahrten”, not “Vettelfahrten”.. Maybe the Poshe Cayman should’ve stayed more on the right… Any judges around?

well, to be fair I actually think it was the BMWs fault. Nordschleife is a Toll road therefore you have to expect the front guy not to do the right thing. And it was raining. But to be fair, when I go to the Nordschleife in an E46 M3 which seems to appear having a part racecar transformation, I would push Limits as well. But in the rain, not 10 horses can pull me on the Ring, I would kill my car and myself for all I know.

It depends on different factors…Maybe the owner doesn’t have enough money to repair it or maybe the frame is damaged beyond repair. I think this one will be repaired, hits to the side of the car are worse.

The Nordschleife is considered as an open road so a good insurance should cover the repairs, but some insurances will not cover it if they find out the crash happened on the track, hence the hidden plates in the video (no proof the owner was on the track)

Hitting the brakes when two wheels on dirt and two on asphalt whips your car. He should have stayed on the track.
