The 8 Best Moments From The Crazy Chinese Grand Prix

The dramatic 2016 F1 season continued in China with a stunning, action-packed and fascinating race – here are some of the most memorable moments
The 8 Best Moments From The Crazy Chinese Grand Prix

1. Rosberg loses the lead

The 8 Best Moments From The Crazy Chinese Grand Prix

Nico Rosberg started on pole position but he didn’t hold onto the lead for long: a brilliant start saw Daniel Ricciardo take the lead, while at the back Lewis Hamilton had a great launch from the line – unlike at the last two races!

2. It all kicks off

But then, chaos ensued. Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel collided, bunching up the field behind. Romain Grosjean damaged his front wing and then Hamilton got hit by Felipe Nasr and suffered damage. We didn’t know where to look!

3. Puncture, puncture!

With so much debris around, it was no surprise someone picked up a puncture. Sadly that was race leader Ricciardo, who had to pit immediately and quickly fell down the order. Rosberg reclaimed the lead and the safety car was then deployed.

4. Cheeky Vettel

Vettel was getting impatient and did not appreciate Nico Hulkenberg’s slow pace entering the pitlane! He cheekily jumped ahead of two cars at the entrance to the pits, an opportunistic and (most importantly) legal move.

5. Pit chaos

Jenson Button had quite a view during the safety car pit phase. There were cars everywhere and he was forced to take avoiding action more than once. Pretty frantic!

6. Battles, battles everywhere

We’ve seen this at the last two races, but there really were battles and fights all over the place. Up and down the order (other than Rosberg out front), we witnessed some great racing and some frantic on-track action. Lucky us.

7. Rosberg victorious

The 8 Best Moments From The Crazy Chinese Grand Prix

Three out of three. It’s been quite a start to the season for Rosberg. He finished 38 seconds clear of Vettel to win the Chinese GP, his sixth consecutive victory and third of the year which puts him 36 points ahead of Hamilton in the championship. Kvyat was third for Red Bull, ahead of Ricciardo, Raikkonen, Felipe Massa and Hamilton.

Vettel called Kvyat “suicidal” at the start and blamed him for the lap one crash. The two disagreed on who was to blame and that resulted in a rather awkward conversation prior to the podium…

I feel sorry for Kimi. He should be higher than P5 but oh well, it’s racing after all.

Best move of the day was Vettel. Always pushing the limits even on the pit entry. Thats why he’s a 4 time world champion!

OMG could you effing stop with that quote, its just stpid, 0.0001m is a gap aswell, you cant go full bananas with no expectation of consequences. Vettel had a choice - to clip Kimi or end race for him and Kvyat.

I have become a massive Vettel fan over the last few years and this race showed why. He is ultra determined. Also a good drive by Kvyat, worth noting. And again, so happy to see another epic F1 race! What has changed this season from last season to wake up the grid. One key factor seems fast drivers, fighting their way back from early in the race. Hamilton, Raikkonen, Riccardo and Vettel were all in that boat and it led to some great moves.

I’m happy to see Red Bull back on the podium. In fact, three different cars on the podium is what I want to see most of the races: this was one of the most interesting and intense races in a while.
Amazing driving from all Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari drivers. I wish Alonso had a car which would allow him to join those fights though…
