The future of Car Guys/Automotive Enthusiasts (Use for school project)

As we are all aware of, the old-school car guy (The one who is into it for the mechanical side and for the driving experience, not for tech or if it looks cool) is being phased out as new technology in cars (electric motors, hybrids, fuel cell…) is being brought in. And driving aids like drift control, self-driving and other safety systems are becoming the norm. We also have to acknowledge, that the days before the internal combustion engine are no more is growing evermore closer by the minute.

It’s no news to anyone when I say that these days, the amount of people that are into cars are dwindling, and more and more are falling out of fashion with conventional cars in favor of Electric cars (cough Tesla cough). Hell, there are currently a lot of people in my school that barely know what a gearbox is…

So, two questions that I put out to all of the people of CarThrottle.

  1. Is it possible to use all the sustainable technology that these days, most people love to put into cars (Electric motors, fuel cells) and put it into a car that will still appeal to old-school car enthusiasts?
  2. Will there be a place for the old-school car guys in the future, and if so, in what way?

(if it doesn’t make sense, im sorry, just really tired)
Cheers.

Well I think the answer to the second question is oldtimers but I don’t know how the rules will change in the future (hopefully internal combustion cars will not be banned all together)

  1. Absolutely. We haven’t seen it yet but it can absolutely happen. Many of the most celebrated sports cars are mainly known for their chassis rather than their engines. Also if you must have an ICE, biofuel is a thing.
  2. It will probably become expensive due to taxes and stuff but as long as biofuel is allowed, it should still be possible to run most old cars with a few modifications (and for good measure, bioethanol provides an octane-rating boost). I imagine in the far future, cars will be superceded by some kind of rail, tube or air-based autonomous transport, so the only people that will still be driving (probably in limited areas unfortunately) will be enthusiasts.

I’m a classic car guy, but I’d love to convert my ‘83 Mazda to EV at some point. Kinda just waiting for the technology to become better and more affordable.

There’s no stopping it unfortunately. But I haven’t really cared all that much for brand new cars since like 2010. Preferably, I like early 2000s and 80s-90s cars. I think along side these electric bricks they should still continue combustion engines with manual transmissions

Ya know. For the people that don’t want to be carried around by microwave on wheels that could turn on you at any second.

  1. Not Only can it happen, it will happen, it is happening. Cool EVs are already out there and they are smashing records. Anyone who wouldn’t buy an EV just has their head in the sand.
  2. That really just depends on a few factors, their own ignorance being the biggest. Nothing is actually stopping them from being apart of the EV community but their own backwards thinking. You can still appreciate where cars have been and at the same time embrace where they are going. Old school auto groups will still exist. Have “cars & coffee” style meet ups in small towns away from big cities.
    .
The only thing killing the car community is the car community itself.
