What Is Rev-Matching?

Ive been trying to explain rev matching to a friend for months. Hes convinced that its riding the clutch (when realistically its the exact opposite).
Thanks for giving me some proof to show him

The BMW’s at my driving school has automatic rev-matching, its weird that you get all the assists in the world when you are learning to drive.

Yeah, I know something about this… There are KIA Picanto’s in my driving school… Funny little cars. It drives great, but it has more electronic assist systems than any other car I know… After school i sat in my mother’s Daewoo Matiz, which is similar in performance, but it has no ABS, Stability Control, Traction Control, or anything like that… My first ride in Matiz after learning on Picanto’s was nightmare… I think, that learning to drive in car, which corrects your fails is senseless. This kind of cars are quite expensive, and most young drivers are forced to buy cars without this much electronics. And then… BOOM! even if the car is similar to the school car, It drives in very diffriend way…

The car he was using has active rev matching. The car was doing that for him on its own before completely engaging the gear. It’s a nifty feature for the Z cars

Yea yea yea, now try this on broken synchronous 3rd gear from 4th. Good luck trying that on my diesel astra mk5… now after 2 years of broken 3rd gear i’m like a rally driver.

Engineering explained, could you do a video on clutchless shifting? How it works, what are the benefits and disadvantages, that sort of thing?

My pedals are too far apart for me to be able to heel toe. It’s really aggravating. Instead I have to clutch, downshift, and brake and when I’m ready to accelerate out I have to use my full foot to “blip” the throttle while easing off the clutch.

The other nuisance I have with is the stupid feature which doesn’t let you depress the brake and gas at the same time. Makes it impossible for me to left foot brake. The idea was that if say an elderly driver were to need to hard brake and the sudden nature had them panicked, they’d accidentally drive both feet onto the pedals. So the ECU is programmed to disengage the gas pedal when the brakes are pressed down. I don’t understand it, but it’s upsetting.

Love my car though.

Do what I do - press the throttle and the clutch at the same time, then brake.
