The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is, as we all know, monstrously fast off the line. Banned from competition for being too fast, and fast enough even to make one American motoring title call for a blanket ban. We disagreed.
But one thing that’s rarely explored is its top speed. Geared for maximum punch over the quarter-mile, it’s less than you’d think: just 164mph. That’s 5mph slower than a Honda Civic Type R…

The original 440 Hemi’s from the late 60’s could rarely get above 130MPH because of gearing. But, they had SOOO MUCH TORQUE because if it.
Is the transmission adjustable in the car? Also I thought it came with an 8 speed transmission?
I want to see a video of the Dodge Demom go up against a Tesla Model S P100D. It will be one heck of a battle, engine downtime to swelling batteries (aka fire)!

Probably a dumb question but, what does V-max mean?

That’s because the tires can’t handle it. They’re very soft and grippy but aren’t built for top speed.
I’ve gone 150 around a track with a pro driver behind the wheel in a Porsche. I can’t imagine how wild that has to be in the Demon. No, it’s not 200+ like Lambos, but that’s stupid fast and it gets there quickly. Faster than most people will ever go in something other than a plane or train.

Well, most of the muscle iron from the ‘60s and 70’s weren’t exactly fast, either (Dodge takes a lot of inspiration and ideology from that time, don’t they? ). Top speeds ranged from 120-140mph, depending on the car and year. But, that didn’t matter much as most muscle cars were geared for insane acceleration and-akin to the Demon here-low 1/4 mile times.
