It’s not uncommon for us to bring you news of a cool celebrity-owned car that’s coming up for sale, but usually there’s only one famous owner to speak of. Not so with this glorious 1969 Dodge Charger in ‘Bullitt’ spec.

Bought by Hollywood actress Demi Moore for her then-husband and action hero Bruce Willis, Willis owned the movie-inspired car for 10 years before it was bought by none other than Jamiroquai front-man Jay Kay, who once owned this stunning Lamborghini Diablo as well.

He imported the left-hand drive giant to the UK in 2008 before spending £25,000 in 2014 to have the engine rebuilt and upgraded, improving the performance and driveability of the slightly ridiculous 8.2-litre V8. Jay Kay still owns it, but it’s now being sold through Silverstone Auctions.

When you have this much torque, three speeds are all you need. That’s lucky, really, because a trio of cogs are all you get from the torque converter automatic transmission. Much more interesting to buyers will be its “comprehensive” history file, although the auctioneers looking after the car’s first public sale don’t say how far the file dates back.

We can see for ourselves that it’s a minter. The driver’s seat looks unmarked, the interior metalwork and the wood-trimmed steering wheel all looks in spectacular condition and we’d bet our bottom dollar that everything works.

The only blot on the landscape is an aftermarket CD player head unit in place of the original radio. It’s a bit of an abomination, if you ask us, but then again Jay Kay doesn’t strike us as the type to be content with cruising to the tinny sounds of analogue radio. We’d also wonder whether the rest of the stereo system has been upgraded…

The car will be sold at the Race Retro weekend, held at Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire. The date for your diary is Saturday 24 February, and if you want it you’re going to have to dig deep for that lost change behind the sofa: the estimate is £50,000-£60,000, plus 15 per cent buyer’s premium.

If you think a 8.2 V8 is ridiculous. Check out the Chevy 572 Big Block 9.2L.

As someone over on Jalopnik pointed out, the car used in Bullitt was a ‘68 Charger, which had no central bar in the front grille and round tail lights.
