Codemasters’ GRID series was a pretty entertaining way of enjoying a racing game without the pressure and complexity of a full sim. We’ll forgive you if you’d forgotten about it seeing as the last entry - GRID Autosport - was released way back in 2014, but now it has returned. Sort of. Why? Because GRID Autosport has now been remade for iOS platforms.

The port has been done by publishers Feral Interactive and promises to bring “console quality” gaming to your iPhone or iPad (with an Android release apparently planned for the future). It certainly looks pretty impressive from the screenshots and trailer.

You’ll need a minimum of 6GB on your device to download it (8GB is recommended) and you’ll also have to have a fairly recent device in order to run it - anything older than an iPhone SE or iPad pro won’t cut it.

Whilst rival games like Real Racing 3 are free to download and make their money through in-app purchases, GRID Autosport requires a one-off payment of $9.99 - and that’s it. Your money gets you plenty of content, too - there are 100 cars and 100 tracks in the base game, with more being available as free downloads.

Even though it’s not the most recent racing game, it was a lot of fun on consoles and it should translate to mobile platforms pretty well. If it plays as good as it looks, it should be a winner!
