Watch A Massively-Modified Ford GT Hit An Astonishing 293mph

At the recent Texas Mile event, this Ford GT nudged 300mph as it set a standing mile world record

Earlier today, we were talking about the new Ford GT and its various driving modes. That’s all fine and dandy, but we’d argue what some people are up to with the old Ford GT is more interesting.

We’ve seen a few madly modified GTs taking on runway-based speed competitions in the last few years, culminating in this particular bonkers example bagging a standing mile world record at the Texas Mile in Victoria. It did so by hitting 293.6mph.

No, that’s not a typo: this 2006 GT really was judging 300mph, just a mile after blasting off the start line.

The heavily-modified 5.4-litre V8 is fed by two massive Precision Turbo blowers, resulting in an output somewhere north of 2000whp. M2K Motorsports - the firm behind this monster - reckon it’s probably good for around 2500, although no one knows for sure, as it’s tricky to find a dyno capable of measuring it. Bit of a serious car, this…

I love the fact that it does the first 100 metres or so with no throttle input at all, it must just have to much torque to even try to launch.. 300 MPH in a mile almost seems like defying physics..

If the driver was on the throttle even a little too much when leaving the line it would just spin the tires.

Can you hear that? That’s the sound of suffering Ford engineers slashing their blood vessel.

They didn’t measure the distance in Kilometers, why would they measure speed with it? It’s a one MILE race

How on earth do you control that much power? I know the gearing is really high but still… 2000 hp is a lot
