This Porsche 911 GT2 Blows A Tyre At Over 200mph On The Autobahn

Punctures can strike at any time, but this Porsche couldn't have picked a worse moment...

Flat tyres are a nuisance at 20mph, but this clip shows just how frightening it can be when a tyre blows at over 10 times that speed. It’s unknown whether the tyre blew from something like a nail or just a lack of proper maintenance, but an unlimited stretch of Autobahn isn’t the best place for something like this to go down!

I was going 120mph on a backroad full of trees in my Toyota MR2 and i was thinking if i got a puncture theres no way im saving it at these speeds especially since there was trees surrounding me.

Well then there would only be one person to blame for that, now wouldn’t there? Seriously, if you are going that speed on a back road (or any road that isn’t especially designed for it), you lack the judgement required to operate a motor vehicle and should not be allowed on public roads. Not only are you putting your own life in danger, but also anyone else unlucky enough to be in your way when you lose control of your car.

The driver’s reaction is faultless. Remember: never brake when that happens!

That was surprisingly anticlimactic… Good! I sometimes think what would happen if I blew my tire at over 100mph. The thought is quickly suppressed by the urge to do 100mph on a stretch of empty highway. Speed is an affliction for which there is no cure.

Reaction in these situations is automatic, you either do the right or wrong thing but you don’t use your conscious mind. I had one of the infamous Firestone Explorer blowouts back in 2000 when I was doing 160Kph luckily on a straight. It was the rear left that went and felt like I’d been shunted in that corner, luckily just eased of the throttle, reaction was to not shock the unstable vehicle with unnecessary steering or brake inputs and came to a stop still on the blacktop and on the wheels. Certainly didn’t think what I was doing but it was ingrained from playing when I was a lot younger on icy roads and car parks. There’s a lot positive to be said about hooning around to teach yourself when other people are not around to get hurt, it saves lives later, 5 in my case….

“Yeah, so, my tyre just blew up so I’m gonna talk on the phone while driving with one hand instead of pulling up safely”
