Hamilton And Rosberg's Last Lap Crash Was The Most Stupid Thing In Recent F1 Times

The Austrian Grand Prix ended in stupidity with Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg crashing into each other while battling it out for the lead on the final lap

Hamilton went on to win the race after the contact, while Rosberg fell to fourth place. The Mercedes duo were separated by just a few tenths in the closing stages, with Hamilton trying a pass around the outside at Turn 2 on the final lap.

Rosberg had a poor exit from Turn 1 but left a lot of space on the inside. He appeared to brake too late and turned in late, colliding with Hamilton. The German’s front wing was damaged and went under the car, causing him to lose positions.

The Mercedes team bosses were understandably furious. Rosberg claimed he had brake issues and said that Hamilton turned in on him, but looking back at the footage, we’re not so sure!

Max Verstappen and Kimi Raikkonen moved ahead to second and third, with Rosberg finishing fourth, while Daniel Ricciardo crossed the line in fifth with Jenson Button behind him in sixth. The British driver qualified third and held second early on before losing ground in the pitstops.

Both the collision and Rosberg continuing with a damaged car are under investigation by the stewards.

Sebastian Vettel failed to finish after a dramatic tyre failure on his Ferrari, which pitched him into the inside barrier on the main straight.

Update:

Rosberg was handed a 10-second time penalty for the contact with Hamilton, but he retains fourth place. He was also given a reprimand and two penalty points on his license for driving his damaged car to the finish line.
