Was The Second Episode Of Top Gear An Improvement Over The First?

Was it just us, or was episode two of 'new' Top Gear a massive improvement over the first? We want your view!
Was The Second Episode Of Top Gear An Improvement Over The First?

From the shouting to the long and seemingly pointless Reliant challenge, it was clear you guys found a lot to dislike about Top Gear post-revamp when watching the first episode. But you know what? I actually enjoyed the second episode.

Sure, it’s clear Evans has work to do when it comes to telling an audience about a car in an insightful way (he is new to this, so should be cut a little slack) and can still come across as irritating, but the McLaren feature was good to watch, and the SUV challenge genuinely enjoyable.

Comments in the CT live discussion seemed much more positive too, so we thought we’d put it to a vote to see exactly what you guys thought:

That wasn’t as bad as the first episode, but still way behind top gear 2002/2015. But that’s understandable, it’s pretty tough to follow the trio. So I’d give it a 5/10, because there’s still room for improvement, but I’ll watch episode 3.
I think we’ll see massive improvement on season 24, just get along with the current format for one season.

New Top Gear relies way too heavily on guest stars. Remember When Jeremy Clarkson road tested the Kia Cee’d and got officer John McClane to operate the horn? That was memorable. Five new celebrities every week is not.

Matt LeBlanc is doing a good job. I think the problem is the BBC wants (for reasons unknown) Chris Evans to be the lead so they aren’t giving LeBlanc the good stuff. If you look at LeBlanc’s driving skill in the Macan, or his review of the Nomad he is clearly good at this.
Controversially, if given the lead and the real stuff to get at he might even be a Clarkson rival. I know that’s a bold claim that will probably get me nothing but hate but hey, it’s how I see it.

I really believe that the BBC needs to can Extra Gear, move the presenters from that alongside LeBlanc and commit all resources to making Top Gear as it could be made, rather than spreading them thinly to cover two shows.

less annoying but still boring. Chris is still annoying and presenters need some time to connect. 6 people challenges would be nice bonding stuff.

I’m not going to vote on the ‘big improvement’ question because I don’t think it was a big improvement, it was an improvement yes but I don’t like the phrasing of the question to suggest a big improvement. Just ask us whether we thought it was better than the last one or not and let our scores out of 10 show how much of an improvement it was.

I actually liked the part in extra gear when Chris gets emotional. Felt very authentic and human. We can hate the guy, but at the end, he seems like a true petrohead

I am slowly but surely warming up to the new and revamped top gear……You gotta love the video on the Mclaren…….top top quality, and Evans is slowly but surely redeeming himself

Episode 2 was going well until Evans opened his gob, then it went downhill, then he shut up and it went better. You see a pattern forming
