I’m a big fan of F1 and have been for practically all my life and still don’t understand all the rules in the sport…its simply being ruined :’(
So if I understand correctly.. The top teams, Mercedes for example, can set their fastest lap with Medium Tyres (during Q2), which then means that during the race, their first pit would come in later than whoever set a fastest time in softs . So, Q2 already plays a huge role in the race strategy.. This is gonna be an interesting year.

Exactly, they basically did this to make the drivers decide on their compound and find out on which they are faster to drive and the one who last longer, or how to make the tires last longer without dropping times, they’re actually bringing back some decisions to the drivers rather than the “team”
I don’t see the point of this, getting fed up with F1. I’ll be watching the WEC this year.
That’s actually a pretty cool thing they’re doing to try and get drivers to differentiate their strategies more. I like it…. But bring back the damn V12 and stop tryin to go green. You’re supposed to be race cars not prii (plural form of prius)
Apparently I’m a minority in this, but I think it’s a good idea. The sheer number of competitive strategies this adds is phenomenal

More options just gives the teams the ability to better match the tires to their chassis. It should be only a good thing. Whereas I do think it’s a good idea it’s no surprise the rules have been obfuscated.
