The 647bhp Ford GT Will Out-Drag A 755bhp Corvette ZR1

Even though it’s over 100bhp and 165lb ft down on the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, the Ford GT’s V-max mode helps it out-drag its muscle rival time after time

After watching this video there’s only one conclusion we can make: the Ford GT is faster in a rolling drag than the significantly more powerful Corvette ZR1.

The 647bhp Ford has gone head to head with the 755bhp Corvette in a new DragTimes YouTube video. The crew take three runs down the Palm Beach International Raceway in Florida, with the slightly tweaked Corvette forced to watch the GT inch away from it every time.

On top of its 108bhp deficit the GT has some 165lb ft less to play with, but weight and aerodynamics are on its side. The Ford weighs 93kg less and, thanks to its V-max mode, can achieve a super-slippery profile through the air. This particular ZR1 is in its most track-focused spec including a big, draggy rear wing.

The video is a bit slow to get going, but skip to about 3m15s to start the racing. The timing tickets are displayed after each run. It’s close, but the seriously impressive GT takes it.

Not really a drag as they initiate from a rolling start which in turn handicaps the torque heavy vette. From standing start, the zr1 is quicker zero to sixty, zero to 100, and qtr mile (although very close at 10.6 to Fords 10.9. Rolling starts without doubt work better for the higher revving gt as well as many other sports cars. The oversized ugly wing does not help in short runs as well.
