On paper, the Koenigsegg Jesko is one of the most impressive hypercars on the planet. Its 5.0-litre twin-turbo V8 is quoted as producing 1,578bhp and 1,106lb ft of torque, though we know that’s a conservative figure. It’s all good and well having the numbers, but how does it fare on the track?

Fortunately for us, Koenigsegg has unleashed the hypercar on Sweden’s Gotland ring, smashed a lap record and shared the footage for all to enjoy.

Taking on the 4.5-mile circuit in Attack spec, the Swede blitzed it in an independently verified 2:56.97. That’s somewhat ahead of the previous production car lap record which, according to Koenigsegg, was previously held by a Manthey Racing-tuned Porsche 911 GT3 RS at 3:04.83.

You can see why the manufacturer would opt to use its Attack spec. Compared with the regular Jesko, it benefits from a huge dam fed under the bonnet to send air over the top of the car and directly towards the gigantic rear wing. In addition, there’s also a horizontally mounted damper across the front axle.

More impressive still, the Jesko we see here is running on 98 RON pump fuel, rather than E85 ethanol which allows it to produce its full power. That’d drop peak power to a quoted 1,262bhp - although again, that’s an underrated figure.

It’s not exactly yearning for more then, but it suggests there’s a potential for the Jesko to set an even faster lap still. Despite all the grunt, whoever is behind the wheel (Koenigsegg doesn’t say) looks to be having a pretty smooth drive - laying weight to company founder Christian von Koenigsegg’s claim the V8 is a “friendly beast.”
