VR Is Finally Coming To EA Sports WRC

Ever since EA Sports WRC launched last October, virtual reality support has been a glaring omission and one many in the community have been begging to make a return. Finally, though, VR will be coming to the game.

Ahead of the game’s season four update dropping, developer Codemasters has confirmed that support for the feature will be arriving as a free update, with a target release by the end of April.

Alongside the announcement, Codemasters has revealed a few clips of VR in action though in quick-cut cinematic shorts, so it’d be hard to decipher exactly how it performs at this stage.

It will come as a free update to all PC players, although of course, you will also need a VR headset, but unfortunately, there’s no PS VR2 support at the moment - sorry, PS5 users. Let’s hope that will change down the line.

It won’t be the first time a Codemasters rally game has had VR. Dirt Rally 2.0 had the feature, although that game used the developers’ in-house Ego engine while WRC has been built using Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5. That, presumably, is the reason it’s taken this long to return.

Before VR comes to the game, the version 1.7 update of EA Sports WRC will be released and focus mostly on improving the game’s performance, including improved visual rain effects and controller feedback. There are said to be further improvements to frame rate stability as well, which has been a sticking point of the game so far.

There’s no major new content, mostly focusing on cosmetic items included in the ‘Rally Pass’ which requires you to level up throughout the season to obtain items. There have yet to be any new cars added to WRC since the game launched, not that the current list is disappointing, but we’ll cross our fingers for more to come in future updates.
