This Is Probably The New Land Rover Defender, And It's Arriving In 2019
It’s very nearly three years since the last Land Rover Defender rolled off the production line, and yet a successor still hasn’t been launched. One hasn’t even been revealed, for that matter.
It’s seemed like Land Rover hasn’t been able to decide what exactly to replace it with, while the Mercedes and Jeep have both shown the world the best tactic when it comes to new versions of iconic vehicles: make something completely new that looks just like the old one.
In 2019 though, we should, at last, see what the next Defender is like. Releasing this teaser image, Land Rover USA has rather not cryptically said, “Do not unwrap until 2019.”
The image - which unfortunately is in a potato-spec resolution - shows a camouflaged vehicle being unloaded from a trailer. It’s hard to imagine what else it could be other than the new Defender.
It’s certainly boxy, although the shape does look quite different to the old Defender. Don’t expect Land Rover to be pulling off a G-Class or Wrangler-like project here.
It will almost certainly be an utter badass off road, and hopefully quite a bit better on-road than the old one. We should find out a little more about it before the year draws to a close too, judging by the ‘December 27’ text at the bottom of the teaser image.

Yeee can’t wait
Makes sense that they only teased the rear end, since the rectangular, flat and therefore unsafe for pedestrians, yet iconic design of the front end became the reason the old model was axed if I remember correctly
There were numerous reasons, really. The disastrous pedestrian safety was just one of many.
Besides, you can make a car with a rectangular front safe, or at least safe enough to comply with the regulations. The Jimny and the G-Class, for example.
Biggest reason is that manufacturing was so labour intensive and unions had made the workforce so costly that defender no longer made a profit.
That’s the truth.
Slow news day kiddos, it’s been doing the rounds on UK roads for over a month now
Yeah seen in around Bristol a few times now
