Ladies and gentlemen, today we bring you what is surely the most drool-worthy engine ever made. Look at it. Drink it in. And bear in mind this air-cooled flat-six pushes out nearly 500bhp.

It’s the work of Porsche 911 ‘re-imagination’ firm Singer Vehicle Design, as part of a collaboration with Williams Advanced Engineering - an offshoot of the iconic F1 team. The icing on the cake? Former Porsche engineer and all-round automotive legend Hans Mezger served as a technical consultant.

It started out as a 1990 3.6-litre Porsche unit, although from the sounds of it, not much of the original engine is left. It’s now good for 493bhp, and will rev beyond 9000rpm.

The quad-cam masterpiece displaces 4.0 litres, has titanium con rods, aluminium throttle bodies, improved oil circulation and an exhaust made of titanium and Inconel. Oh, and Singer has even built ram-air intakes into the rear-quarter windows of the 911 the engine is destined for.

The restomod 911 in question is for multiple Singer owner Scott Blattner, but it sounds as though there’ll be more to come. Singer describes the modified engine as the “first fruit” of its work with Williams, with the company’s founder Rob Dickinson going on to say:

“The full culmination of this exciting work with Williams and other technical partners will be revealed shortly and will represent a stand-alone selection of restoration and modification services strongly oriented towards light-weighting and dynamic gains.”

We can’t wait to see more.
