I was thinking about how bad the market was when I got my car, and how many junkers I saw before I got lucky. I imagine a lot of you guys have seen some horrible cars with asking prices above and beyond anything reasonable for the car in the condition it’s in, so lets hear your stories!
The one that stands out the most for me was a 1998 Honda Civic DX. This was in late 2009 or early 2010, so that thing was about 12 years old, and boy did it show it. The forest green paint was well worn, and the “chrome” trim was peeling off. Someone had slapped some chrome Duct Tape on to try and cover the lack of chrome on the grille, but it was still obvious. The thing was just tired inside and out, which is not surprising considering it had over 220,000 miles on it. (I think it was 228k). At this point in the search, it was still something to consider, assuming we could talk the salesman down from the $9000 asking point. But when the oil cap was removed and a quick check was done. Grey oil. We didn’t want to deal with what could be causing water in the oil. Left that lot and never looked back.
I see its on sale, is it worth it, or would I just lose interest quickly?
