You Could Own This Ferrari Daytona Spyder (Replica) For Just $20k

With the scant few actual Ferrari 365 GTS/4 Spyders selling for well into the millions, going for a nice replica is as close as most people will ever get to owning this legend. And this one caught our attention

Let’s begin by addressing the elephant in the room. Yes, this is a Ferrari replica, and Ferrari replicas don’t always get much respect. But here’s the cold, bitter truth: even if you have money to burn you will never, ever own a real Ferrari 365 GTS/4 Spyder. Only 122 were built and they’re currently selling for well over $2million. What’s that you say? You got cash to buy a 458? That’s cute… have you got cash to buy 10 of them? Didn’t think so.

Even replicas of this ageless classic are hard to come by. When the ultimate ‘80s cop drama Miami Vice hit US airwaves in 1984 featuring said car (as a replica), Ferrari got wind and was not too keen on its likeness being portrayed through a reworked C3 Chevrolet Corvette. The Daytona Spyder replica business, short-lived as it was, came to a rather abrupt halt. So when a well-executed Daytona Spyder replica does pop up, it’s noteworthy. Especially when it’s selling for one per cent of the going rate for the real deal. And that’s exactly what we have right here.

Per the eBay auction description, this replica was built from the ground up using a 1980 Corvette as the starting point. Considering 1980 Corvettes were neutered, emissions-choked tortoises far-removed from their awesome late-‘60s brethren, being reborn as a sexy Italian super car isn’t such a bad fate.

And the work done on this replica does indeed look top-notch, right down to the faithfully recreated (if not entirely accurate) interior. At least it has a proper five-speed gearbox—you don’t want to know how many Daytona replicas in the States have automatic transmissions—and though it’s clearly sporting a Corvette V8 engine with admittedly tacky Ferrari branding, it’s at least been tuned to a reported 400bhp. That’s a few ponies more than the original GTS/4’s V12, so this replica has the punch to back up the looks.

Sure, it would be nice to have a proper 12-cylinder soundtrack to accompany the Spyder’s Italian suit, and it’s definitely a fair-weather only car with no top or side windows. Still, with a current bid price of $22,000 (and the seller states the reserve has been met, so this car will sell), we’re hard-pressed to find anything that can even come close to delivering the exclusivity, dead-sexy looks and strong performance of a Ferrari Daytona Spyder at this price.

The car is located north of Atlanta, Georgia and as of this posting there’s still 12 hours to go in the auction, so the price will likely go up; even if it breaches $30,000, it’s a great find.
