You Can Now Buy A Third-Gen Ford Focus ST For Under £10k

The earliest examples of the third-gen Focus-based ST have now dipped below the £10,000 mark

For now, the most powerful version of the newly revealed Ford Focus makes 179bhp. Even with the new car’s 88kg weight drop, it’s not going to be hugely fast, but there will almost certainly be a hotter ‘ST’ version arriving at some point. Feeling impatient? Don’t worry - there are plenty of used examples of the most recent Focus ST littering the classifieds.

The best part is, they’re getting quite cheap. The earliest third-gen STs having been kicking around for over five years, and that means they’ve been liberally spanked with the depreciation stick.

The cheapest ones we’ve found sit nicely under the £10,000 mark. Up the budget a little beyond that, and you’ll snag a tidy car with reasonable mileage - this 2012 ST-2 is up for £10,995, and has done 41,242 miles.

All petrol STs (a diesel was available, if you like that sort of thing) pack a 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four, which fires 247bhp and 266lb ft of torque at the front wheels. If you can manage the inevitable wheelspin, 0-62mph happens in just 6.5 seconds.

If you want more poke, there are plenty of tuning packages out there from the likes of Mountune and Revo. But be warned - the power delivery of the standard car is already, ahem, unpolished, so upping that further will result in quite a boisterous thing.

The best part of our chosen used ST? It’s finished in the only colour you should ever consider for one of these: Tangerine Scream.

Tempted?

This was a well written article and everything , but i’m truly still in shock after finding out Alcantara is a brand.

Honestly, I rather have a Focus ST over an RS. The Focus RS is too overhyped, too overstyled and lack of feel. The ST on the other hand, it feels alright.

Wouldn’t say RS is overhyped. I mean it’s a huge breakthrough for Ford. Plus it’s AWD. Awd is the greatest thing ever.

Ford Focuses are known to suffer heavy depreciation so this isn’t surprising.

I kinda want to buy one and then spend an extra few grand to strip it out, put in a rollcage, beefier brakes, exhaust, suspension mods, etc

Or maybe it’s because I’ve just been to a trackday

Expensive car for a track day! Unless you’re loaded. In which case it would have to be a Westfield surely?

Balls. It’s better than the mk2 in everything but sound. The mk2 was understeer central. The mk3 is sharper, faster and just a better place to be in general. Check out the seats in ST3 trim. Beautiful!
