Rolling Coal? a waste?
So lately i’ve had this painful thought in my head about about rolling coal. mainly between trucks and Tractors as I have yet to see anything else “Roll Coal.” But what bugs me the most is how much fuel is wasted during the process of “Rolling Coal” don’t get me wrong it does look pre cool but it is litterally un burnt fuel. But unburnt Fuel is wasted power.
So my main question is Why do people “Roll Coal”? I understand it does bring more power. but I strongly feel that your mixture could be leaned so the Truck or tractor (as I have yet to see anything else “Roll Coal”) isn’t wasting so much.
Solution to increasing mixture. Well since it is unburnt fuel what if we add 2 spark plugs or glow plugs per cylinder much piston engine planes. 1st it would create a fail safe system in cars if a spark plug goes out. 2nd and mainly most of all this would hopfully burn the access fuel off creating a larger power output, only what every guy wants. Now how do we get 2 spark plugs? Well the only real solution is to machine them in at some high tech Fabrication shop. If you had time to Read this all I Thank you for staying till the end.

Good thinking.
What if the explosion gets more than the engine can handle.
Well we got to counter that then.
It isn’t healthy for the engine, but it looks bad ass
But if i had a diesel truck i wouldn’t convert it to a coal roller
I dont know about the laws there but wasn’t it illegal?
I’m in the USA. In some states they might. but not in Illinois
Your idea is pretty good and i can see where you are going with this.
But:
A diesel engine does not use spark plugs and only uses the glow plugs to start the engine. The mixture itself ignites under pressure.
The black smoke is made by adding diesel and leaning out the mixture, therefore all the diesel gets burned nontheless, but this ignition happens with very low ammounts of oxygen, therefore creating black smoke.
Give or take, its not really healthy for the engine, and not healthy for the environment.
Ohhhh, Never really fully understood Diesels. but either way, the Black smoke is still unburnt fuel. or wasted power.. I apologize for that
Whats a roaling coal??
When they make a diesel blow alot of black smoke
There are petrol cars out there that have to spark plugs per cylinder. Alfa Romeo’s Twin Spark engines and I think Mercedes used it aswell in some of their V6’s and V8’s, (don’t qoute me on the Mercedes). They were decent machines, but I don’t think there was a noticeable benefit to having two spark plugs per cylinder.
Would not work in a diesel anyway as the glow blug is only used to heat the cylinder to get the car going and it just uses heat and compression to ignite the fuel
Nice idea but sadly the two spark plugs wouldnt work as it uses heat and compression to ignite the fuel not a spark.. one way to reduce the smoke and gain more power is to add more boost but then it will not roll coal
In Australia rolling coal=ILLLLLLEEEEEEEEEGGGGGGGGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLL
That’s not how a diesel works unfortunately, there’s no spark plugs. It’s not done for more power, it’s done for the look.
It doesn’t make more power because it’s wasting that fuel, efficiency is power - not waste. If anything, it’s harming the engine as well as power output.
Fair enough.
I hate it. I get wanton displays of wastefulness if it’s fun but i don’t see the fun aspect. It’s just stupid wastefulness for the sake of it.
