Let’s talk stats for the stock ones… The r32 has an awd system with the awesome vr6 to create around 250 bhp. The gti has a fwd system with a 4 cylinder to create about 200 bhp. Since the gti has a turbo, it is a little bit more torquey than the r32. But since the r32 has a bigger engine, there is power when you need it and it has no turbo lag like what the gti has. I prefer the r32 over the gti as it is overall the better car. But since there are only 5k made for the US market, I will have to stick with my gti. I’m still quite happy with my gti as it is totally fun to drive! Both are equally awesome in many ways.
Since the gti is already turbocharged you’ll be able to get more power out of it for less money but if you plan on keeping the car stock and you have the extra cash to spend i’d go for the R32.
Stage two GTI’s blow r32’s with full bolt ons and a tune out of the water. They have more aftermarket support and better modifications. Lightweight compared to the r32, you don’t lose WHP like you do in a r33 from the AWD system.
