Best First Mods For SN95s

Some suggestions for first mods for SN95s:

Gears

Gears are a must have for acceleration mods. While they don’t necessarily make any more power, they make the most of what you have though better ratios. The steeper you go, the quicker the acceleration will be, but the higher your car will rev. Gears can get you to powerbands quicker, just watch out for a slight drop in MPGs. The two most popular choices are 3.73s and 4.10s. Consider refreshing your posi units (if equipped) when you do this mod.

Short Shifters

Some of these cars don’t have any factory internal stops from factory, and therefore a bad shift can do some serious damage to the trans. Make sure you’re changing to a quality brand that has external bumpers will prevent this issue.

UDPs (Underdrive Pulleys)

These are debated, but a good crank style underdrive pulley can yield some legitimate power gains. Just make sure you’re not pulling too much power from your alternator if you have any major aftermarket electrical draw.

Headers

Not only do these sound great, they can free up some usable power. Ideally, you’d get a set of longtubes and ditch the cats. If you live somewhere where emissions are tested or are strict, some shorties are still worth a little power.

Tunes

Tunes make an enormous difference, depending on what year SN95 you have. You can either do a mail order tune through suppliers, or you can get a custom dyno tune done. A custom tune will always yield better results, but a mail order may be more affordable.

Gears is one of the biggest. Stock GT (depending on the year)I think can have 2.95s and later 3.23 I swapped my 95 to 3.73 and man did it change.

3.27 is the short factory option.

4.10s are NUTS on a manual car, 3.55 or 3.73 are probably the best gears for a daily

Don’t fear the gear! It was by far the best bang for the buck on my NA 2002 GT. Second would be a tune.

Full length subframe connectors should be the very first mod convertibles get. These verts are so damn flimsy stock. How did you miss springs/coilovers as main first mods? These cars are monster trucks stock!

  1. Short shifter (steeda is solid)

  2. Subframe Connectors

  3. Skip the cold air and save $. 96+ cold airs are about as good as they’re going to get

  4. Spend said money on a panhard bar, and then good springs and shocks. The panhard stops the rear from trying to snap oversteer near the limit.

  5. Cobra front brakes. They’re huuuge. Never had trouble stopping
