Dragster Piston and Rod's for a 2000HP single-turbo 2JZ-GTE!

Sooo…. since I’m on my summer vacations, I’m taking a bit of a rest of the work on my engine project. Don’t worry, it will go on soon, but I just can’t do it all year long for every day. But you all know that I love constructing things, and since someone asked me for some Pistons and Rod’s for a Dragster 2JZ (it will make approx. 2000HP), I started working on that. For me, doing this is really fun because you have to make the best product with the limitation of the other parts and the fixed dimensions.

To achieve 2000HP, I chose to use Steel for the pistons (Chrome-Molybdenum Steel) and Titanium 6Al-4V alloy for the wrist pin and the rod. This makes up for a weight that is only a bit higher than the stock piston+rod set, but it should be ready for those 400bar/5800psi of maximum combustion pressure and 9000rpm.

Making the set as light as possible was fairly complicated, Steel is much denser than Aluminum, and while you can make everything thinner, it doesn’t mean you’re able to create a super thin piston, at least when we’re talking about this power range.

Allowing the engine to rev as high as 9000rpm while having pistons with more weight is made easier with a smaller stroke/rod-length ratio. This was achieved by reducing the compression height of the pistons from 34mm down to 27mm and by that being able to increase the rod length.

I hope you like the pictures :) Oh, and for the people who are interested: Daimler accepted my application for a integrated degree program as a engineer, and after passing the online-test, I have to travel 500km down south to Stuttgart, where I have to pass further tests and some interviews. Wish me good luck guys! :D If things will work out, my biggest dream will come true, so I’m giving my best.

Well I’m definitely wishing you a good luck. You might be the next Keith Duckworth. At least you have the talent :)

Awesome project you have there I am doing an engineering project myself, a custom 2.0l Rotary 4 Disk peripheral intake and turbocharged by a turbo designed by myself, sry if I ask but what program are you using looks similar to mine (Catia V5)
