Would You Choose A CLK DTM Or A CLK63 Black Series From This Auction?

This incoming auction has the potential to leave any well-off Mercedes-AMG fan with a massive dilemma...

The final generation of the Mercedes CLK range was lucky enough to receive two incredible limited-edition AMG versions. First we had the CLK DTM in 2004 (a convertible version arrived in 2006), followed by the CLK63 Black Series in 2007. And soon, examples of both will be at the same auction.

First up, let’s take a look at the DTM. Just 180 cars were built in total (100 coupes and 80 drop-tops), and this DTM is one of only 40 right-hand drive cars ever made.

Power comes from a 5.5-litre supercharged V8 shared with the SL55 and E55, tweaked to produce 574bhp and 590lb ft of torque. The suspension was overhauled, wider tyres were added, and - of course - the whole shebang was finished off with blistered arches.

0-62mph takes just 3.9 seconds, and the top speed is 199mph. We’re sure 200 will be possible with a tail-wind…

The CLK 63 Black you see below is actually rarer than the DTM. Well, sort of - overall production was limited to a more generous 700 units, but Mercedes only made 25 right-hand drive UK models. Stingy.

With 507bhp on tap and a 0-62mph time of 4.3 seconds it’s neither as powerful or quick as the DTM, but it does have a larger, naturally-aspirated engine under the bonnet. Yep, we’re talking about AMG’s incredible M156 6.2-litre V8.

In addition to a power increase over the standard CLK63, the Black version also had its front track widened by 75mm, the rear track increased by 66mm, and the ESP recalibrated to be less intrusive. An enticing recipe, we think.

Tempted? Both will appear at Silverstone Auctions’ 19 May sale. The DTM has an estimate of £180,000 - £220,000, while the Black Series - which has only 4000 miles on the clock - is expected to go between £110,000 and £125,000.

Which one would you have?

The DTM may have more power but nothing beats the soundtrack of the 6.2 in the Black! The whole reason why I love AMG.

IDK, its pretty hard, have the DTM for the more powerful engine? Or the Black for the amazing sounding N/A V8?
