GT86/BRZ/FRS Common Faults
RPM Fluctuation
Engine revs drop down low and then increase again at idle, some owners have reported stalling and nearly stalling. This can be fixed by an ECU re-flash at the dealer.
‘Cricket’ Noise
This was a noise noticed by many owners, it turned out to be a noise coming from the fuel pump. This should have been fixed under warranty. Most cars received a new, revised pump.
Boot not opening
In the boot on the drivers side there is a button that enables the boot to only be opened by putting the key in the key-hole. Sometimes stuff in the boot can hit this without you knowing, so the next time you hit the boot button it won’t open, but this will more than likely be the problem.
Gear stick vibration
If there is a vibration in the gear stick, don’t worry there is no major fault with anything! Most people find that if you remove the shifter altogether, the vibration stops, so either securing it all the way down (it will be upside down) or replacing the gearknob altogether.
Due to these cars still being relatively new, most of them are still in the dealer network and still under warranty
Comments
I wasn’t aware there was a true fix for the crickets. I’ve heard the replacement from the dealer still doesn’t work. Though after I got a new engine, I’m cricket free!
…
I have a 2016. Crickets still happen. It’s from ethanol in the fuel. Sometimes I get them sometimes I don’t.
That’s what I thought. There is no true fix from Toyobaru.
