Not so “smart”, engine too big for the bay and litterally no space for an LSD…always understeer…
Surely the 3.2 won’t fit in the bay, but maybe the 2.0 or the 2.5 will. Of course there will be a bit more understeer, as those engines are heavier. But a v6 alfa is more “emozionante” than a 4 cylinder
If you really want an Alfa Engine in your Punto, I’d chase after a turbo Mito Engine, ‘cos the Grande Punto and Mito are based on the same platform.
They have litterally the same engines, 1.4 T-jet 155 or 180 PS that you can get on the abarth version. For a “dream” mod, I went for the maddest engine that (maybe) can fit the engine bay. Of course I could have said V10 but it’s crearly impossible :)
I’d love an mk1 Punto (cause I think after the facelifted mk2 they don’t look as nice, even the Punto Evo looked a bit “…meh…” IMHO) with a V6 swap like that… with a 2.5, or even a 2.0 it’ll be a riot, as long as you can have the 6spd gearbox to go with it… Maybe with one of these diffs thrown in for good measure… ( https://shop.quaife.co.uk/alfa-romeo-gtv-atb-helical-lsd-differential ) Would it involve chopping firewalls / moving steering racks etc though? Does anyone know? As long as you could make it handle well, it should be awesome (if a bit too expensive/complicated for what you get in the end, I guess). The Fiat Coupe engine could be a great alternative for the mk1 Punto I guess, but it’s not the same thing. Which Punto are you looking to swap one of these in (mk1, mk2 or mk3)?
Well well that’s just an idea. I’d like to do it on my Grande Punto but not now as it is my main car, and the engine still runs great after 8 years. I’ll seriously consider this when my engine dies. I’d like to test drive the different engines before choosing, but I think the 2.0 might be a better option, more compact, lighter and can be easily remapped thanks to the turbo. The 2.5 is “only” 192hp and won’t be worth the effort as the difference in power is not huge compared to the 180hp of the abarth essesse. For the fitment I don’t know, I don’t think this had been done already, can be a nightmare… Fiat coupe’s engine can be a good swap too!
