HELP- my spark plug won't come out.

My engine has been feeling a bit laggy, (I have a 5.4L) and I’ve been having issues with acceleration, so I decided to do a compression test this morning before work.

This was a horrible idea, because as I was removing one of my spark plugs, the threads came out but the spark plug stayed in the cylinder :(

Has anyone else experienced this? I don’t want to knock the spark plug in and cause real damage, but I have no idea how I’m going to get it out now.

You spark plug is most likely cross threaded. I have the same problem with my 4.9L I6. The fastest way, I was told, was to remove the head and use helicoil or you can re-tap it. Either you most likely have to remove the head to prevent the spark plug filament from entering the block and also addition damage to the engine.

Argh… I was hoping I wouldn’t have to remove the head :/

I believe you can try to remove the spark plug but you need to be very careful. Otherwise you can lose the plug in the bore and the head has to come off as mentioned

How will I know if part of it falls in?
