Why Japanese Formula 1 Fans Are The Best In The World

Whether it’s fun, thoughtful gifts, eye-catching costumes or the packed grandstands, Japanese F1 fans never disappoint when the series heads to Suzuka…

There are a lot of great Formula 1 fans, that’s for sure, and the series visits some really cool places. But Japan is arguably one of the coolest and that’s partly thanks to the enthusiastic supporters.

McLaren Honda may have had a poor weekend and there may not be a Japanese driver on the grid, but nevertheless the grandstands were jam-packed with F1 fans taking in all of the on-track action.

It’s really cool to see and is a good change from the bare grandstands we often see at some of the other races in Asia.

So it’s no surprise that the F1 teams and drivers love to visit Japan and race at Suzuka. Not only is it a wonderful country and a legendary circuit, but the fans just make the experience so much better.

Arigato Japan. Amazing support from you 🇯🇵❤️

No wonder we are always seeing the teams and drivers sharing their appreciation for the Japanese supporters, who are always respectful and polite – even if their favourite driver isn’t on the podium, they’ll still be cheering the top three on.

Another awesome element of F1 visiting Japan is the costumes, hats and wacky clothing they wear. There’s always a ridiculous amount of home-made or unusual items used to show their support for teams or drivers.

A particular favourite of mine is the brilliant DRS hats, while F1 car models on top of helmets or this one of a man with a model of the track on his head just shows how crazy they are about the series in general.

It’s always a sea of colour in the grandstands with all of the teams receiving some form of support. There’s no booing on the podium, a great, lively atmosphere and commitment whatever the weather (and when it rains at Suzuka, it’s often heavy).

Drivers also love to show off or share what the fans have given them as gifts in Japan. A lot of them receive home-made presents and there are few races where the drivers are treated so well and with so much respect.

That’s not to say other F1 fans aren’t great. There are a lot of awesome crowds – Silverstone, Monza, Spa being just a few examples. But Japanese fans take that to a whole new level.

Even on Thursday, which is known as media day, there were apparently loads of fans at Suzuka waiting for a glimpse of the drivers. And they’d stay at the track late each night too. It’s bonkers, but in the best possible way.

respect and polite are the main things you can find in every Japanese fandom culture, especially in motorsport fandom. sounds familiar for some people. still, i find these japanese F1 fans are the most unique fans with that attribute 👍👍

give them an A+ for their effort 😁
