They are legal over here in WA
Head down to your local exhaust shop, they should be able to tell you
I think Moog had a Varex muffler on his S15 and he had it for a while. But, yeah: check before you put it on. Don’t want to waste money.

The NSW Police definitely dont like them although as long as they arent exceeding the sound decibel limit i think they are legal, i couldnt find a specific rule stating that you cant have a variable exhaust in VIC imagine itd be pretty similar in NSW, however I always close mine when i go past cops just to be safe.
