Why Normal People Hate Car People
Oh, boy. Another Cars and Coffee crash-a-bash. Idiot spun it into a commuter. Commuter probably went to the city council and demanded that these events be banned. And I empathize with him or her. Hear me out, before telling me that I’m not a real car guy, or something.
We, as car guys, know that a lot of people hate us. People think we crash, pollute, and oppose progress. Are they right? Should the law-abiding, mature classic car restorer be looped with the douchenut who crashed his Vette or Supra into someone’s house?
Car culture gets flack for a lot of reasons. It isn’t surprising, really. There are a lot of idiots in the scene. The Cars and Coffee crashers, the ‘straight piped V8 in neighborhood’ people, the ‘roll coal and shout about how the environment sucks’ morons, and the street hoons. They are killing car culture, my fellow car nuts. They are why people want Cars and Coffee events shut down, and performance cars and modification outlawed.
Should we give the lawmakers the excuses necessary to ban all that makes up our grand hobby? Do you want to have to swap out your engine for every smog check? Resort to the black market for a cold air intake? To be pulled over by Mr. Cop because he heard a dump valve?
Or should we grow up and retain some civility? Give a damn about the very air we and the people around us breathe? Not speed through school zones? Not just because we don’t want speed to be banned, but because we are human, and we care about other humans?
Do you agree with this rant? If not, ask yourself if you’re the reason we will all be driving sub-200 horse econopoops in the near future. And be prepared to find another hobby. I hear playing the guitar is quite fun.
