DOT 3 vs "Honda Heavy Duty DOT 3"?

Hi all, I am planning to do a brake fluid flush on my 08 Accord. According (no pun intended) to the owner’s manual, I should be using “Honda Heavy Duty DOT 3” and not just “DOT 3”. However, I remember seeing on some forums posts that people were advising to use just DOT 3. Which one do I use and what’s the difference? Thanks.

The only difference is the name

dom idk

I’ve heard both sides of the argument before. A teacher said if it was a newish honda, to use honda fluids for everything but the coolant.
On the other hand I’ve seen people that still put atf in modern power steering systems that call for specialized fluid, and never had a problem.
In my opinion its better safe than sorry, but that’s just me

All brake fluid is the exact same no matter what brand is on the bottle. It has to conform to a certain specification. Only difference is the price.

Realistically theres 4 brake fluids out there. DOT 2, DOT 3, DOT 4, and DOT 5.1. all can mix except the DOT 5.1 so ive heard. The only difference is there bowling points.

Ahh okay. When you say “all can mix” are you saying that you can put DOT 4 fluid into a system that already has DOT 3 fluid in it?

Correct or vise versa. Its basically like mixing coke and diet coke. It just makes it 50% diet.
