2JZGE turbo worth it?

So a friend of mine is buying a 1999 GS300 with a 2JZGE in it, we are thinking about two options, replacing it with the 2JZGTE or just turbocharging it. should we use the time, money, and effort to turbo it or just say “F” it and plop in the 2JZGTE?

The 2 of them require quite a lot of time and effort. From an extremely long period of time, I conducted a study (reading every single post on club lexus talking about it) and concluded that for low to medium horspower, gte will be better but for high horspower, you’re better of doing full turbo conversion with forged components, bigger injectors, ect.

my friend wants to have about 500-600BHP, so i guess just do a full turbo conversion?

In that case, I would just swap it for a gte…

i mean we are a bit skeptical on it because i feel doing the turbo conversion would be cheaper

Get the Aristo GTE from Japan it’s way easier

I’d plop in a GTE, I say this because the GE is not as strong as the GTE. The GE does not have oil squirters and oil feed for a turbo. In addition to this the GTE has stronger pistons and overall engine head. For the opposing side though the GE is a very good engine especially for the price and reliability factor it holds. It’s a cheaper than a GTE but doesn’t deliver as much because of the technical specifications listed above. The GTE should bolt in fine as the Aristo (which is basically a GS with a “T” on it) had a GTE for the 2nd gen GS model years. The old Auto trans might fit to the Aristo GTE but I’d swap a manual if it were me, Below are some trans choices you could consider (thanks to driftworks.com forums)

V160 / V161 Getrag 6-speed from a Mk4 Supra JZA80.

R154 5-speed from a Mk3 Supra MA70 3-litre turbo (needs a JZ bellhousing)
R154 5-speed from a 1JZ-GTE engined Soarer JZZ30 or Mk3 Supra JZA70 or Chaser/Mark II/Cresta JZX90/JZX100/JZX110.

W58 5-speed from a Mk4 Supra non-turbo.
W58 from a Mk3 Supra MA70 3-litre non-turbo (needs a JZ bellhousing).
The W58 reputedly breaks with anything more than a moderate power increase.

Good luck if you do the swap! Can’t wait to see the results if you do
