Watch The Honda Mean Mower Hit 100mph In Six Seconds

You can’t help but love the idea of the Honda Mean Mower V2. The custom-built machine uses a 999cc engine pinched from a Fireblade SP superbike, tickled to produce 200bhp at 13,000rpm.

Plenty of power for a grass cutter weighing just 140kg, we’d say. It should come as no surprise, then, that the Mean Mower is brutally fast. As in 0-100mph in 6.29 seconds fast. Drag race this thing against a Porsche 911 GT2 RS, and you’d be in for an extremely close result.

The 0-100mph is an average of two runs set at the Lausitzring in Germany with stunt driver, kart and car racer Jess Hawkins behind the wheel. A Guinness World Record adjudicator was present to ensure the Mean Mower could be officially crowned as “the fastest acceleration 0-100 mph for a lawnmower (prototype).”

The Guinness official also had to observe Honda’s creation cutting grass, something it’s still able to do despite being a supercar slayer producing over 1000bhp/tonne. It uses a modified cutter deck from an HF 2622 ‘lawn tractor’, with carbonfibre blades powered by electric motors and a pair of batteries instead of the 22bhp V-twin engine used as standard. Plus, it has to “intrinsically look like a lawnmower,” which is why it also uses the grass box, front cowl and various other body panels from the HF 2622.

Not content with the 0-100mph runs on their own, Honda also sent Hawkins out for a top speed run, which resulted in a Vmax of 150.99mph. Not bad for something with less than ideal aero properties…
