Watch A Massively-Modified Ford GT Hit An Astonishing 293mph

At the recent Texas Mile event, this Ford GT nudged 300mph as it set a standing mile world record

Earlier today, we were talking about the new Ford GT and its various driving modes. That’s all fine and dandy, but we’d argue what some people are up to with the old Ford GT is more interesting.

We’ve seen a few madly modified GTs taking on runway-based speed competitions in the last few years, culminating in this particular bonkers example bagging a standing mile world record at the Texas Mile in Victoria. It did so by hitting 293.6mph.

No, that’s not a typo: this 2006 GT really was judging 300mph, just a mile after blasting off the start line.

The heavily-modified 5.4-litre V8 is fed by two massive Precision Turbo blowers, resulting in an output somewhere north of 2000whp. M2K Motorsports - the firm behind this monster - reckon it’s probably good for around 2500, although no one knows for sure, as it’s tricky to find a dyno capable of measuring it. Bit of a serious car, this…

Lets be honest though, this gt is probably tuned so massively it would be a pain to maintain and the engine is probably SCREAMING in pain. A Bugatti is made to run very very fast EVERY day and never fall apart. All whilst having all the creature comfort you want, its an amazing feat of engineering.
