Watch A BMW M2 Damn Near Match Its M4 Big Brother On Track
Steve Sutcliffe from Auto Express takes the 1M, M2 and M4 around track to see how they fare over a hot lap. The results are very close indeed...
What’s most interesting about this is that the M4 in question is fitted with the Competition Pack. This means that it has revised suspension, wider Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres and a 19bhp boost over the standard model. Without all that, the M2 would have stood a good chance of beating it.

Bmw. The company that makes a crappy sounding, good looking, amd good performing car (the m4 and bmw, the company that makes a better looking, great performing, and amazing looking other car (the m2)
Hmm.. What I’m thinking, is that if 718 Boxster S is faster round the Nurburgring than stock M4, is it possible that more rigid 718 Cayman S is faster than all of these? What about non-S 718 Cayman, would it beat M2?
(To me, M2 is a direct competitor to 718 Cayman/Cayman S… At least it was one of the few cars which I was considering as an alternative to the 718. Both are similarly priced, both are RWD, both come with DCT/manual, both have 300+bhp. The only difference is that 718 is mid-engined, whereas M2 is front-engined and has some kind of rear seats. So it would be interesting to see some M2/718 comparison tests)
Here’s my biggest issue with track times, perspective. On a 45ish second track the times were all very close. On a larger track, the ring for example, all those indiscernible little advances the m4 makes will add up and give you a much faster time. But again perspective, the z/28 and the gt350 in reality are equally quick on a normal length track. You have to go to the ring just to see a what 10 second difference? Less? As he says in the video he’d prefer the m4 with a manual and that’s why people should buy their car, so they enjoy it. Not so they can compare ring times of people they’ve never met driving the same car as them. I can guarantee my Lincoln would embarrass itself if I took it to the track with the intent of setting a record, but landyachting around is what’s fun.

Why he use efficient on m4?
The BMW M2 could have won…if the guy driving it was a little bit thinner and lighter LOL..Weight reduction BROOOO
