Was The Second Episode Of Top Gear An Improvement Over The First?

Was it just us, or was episode two of 'new' Top Gear a massive improvement over the first? We want your view!
Was The Second Episode Of Top Gear An Improvement Over The First?

From the shouting to the long and seemingly pointless Reliant challenge, it was clear you guys found a lot to dislike about Top Gear post-revamp when watching the first episode. But you know what? I actually enjoyed the second episode.

Sure, it’s clear Evans has work to do when it comes to telling an audience about a car in an insightful way (he is new to this, so should be cut a little slack) and can still come across as irritating, but the McLaren feature was good to watch, and the SUV challenge genuinely enjoyable.

Comments in the CT live discussion seemed much more positive too, so we thought we’d put it to a vote to see exactly what you guys thought:

To be honest, I wouldn’t say it was a massive improvement (like that crossover challenge was quite boring for me), but it was better
I really, really enjoyed the 675LT review, especially the part with Jenson. He is amazing, I wish he was there instead of Evans
So 6/10 for me I’d say

The problem with the 675lt segment is that Chris isn’t very good at reviewing cars. He didn’t really explain the dynamics of the car at all. Then he just let Button thrash it. Ironically I learned more about the car from Button than I did from Evans. I think it’s because Chris Evans isn’t a journalist, so he’s not as articulate as Hammond or Clarkson when reviewing a car. He’ll probably get better, but what I don’t understand is that they hired two very competent car journalists just to put them in extra gear as an afterthought. The whole setup just confuses me.

What I don’t understand is why offer Chris Evans the role to lead the show when hes not good enough.

I don’t think the BBC are in touch with their viewers any more to be honest. I think they thought Evans would be good because he is fairly popular on the radio (albeit with 50+ year olds) and that he has got a huge passion for cars which does shine through, but they just forgot the reason why people watched Top Gear.

He seems more scripted to me compared to Evans though.

For some reason …. the fact that he starts talking before the applause ends really annoys me … Nevertheless, he seems more composed and TV ready than Mr. Shouty Evans

I’d say it was a massive improvement, but it’s still like having your doctor tell you that you’re diagnosed with lung disease and then say “At least it’s not cancer”. Still has a long way to go but at least we’re seeing improvements. Hopefully IF they manage to even do a season two they’ll get rid of that evans c*nt

I’d say watch Eddie Jordan breaking that GLC give me cancer. Does he even have an idea WTF he is doing? Even a 16 year old who just got a license can off road better than him. I mean if this is the way you treated a press car then do not expect Mercedes to give you a press car anymore. Why would Top Gear hire a person who literally can not drive a car.

What we’ve learnt from last night’s episode is that Jenson Button would’ve made a fantastic presenter….

Lewib0510 - glad I’m not the only one who thought this! But then again - he couldn’t do both racing and TG, and I don’t want him to quit racing :P

The mclaren bit was cool and watching with my dad we did find the suv challenge funny at times. There wasn’t a lot about the cars though. Before when Top Gear have done one of those three car features the challenges and commentary from the presenters was all about picking out the pros and cons of each car. This one just felt like an advert for the cars, the only thing I learned was that the merc was a bit less powerful…
